SALINE, MI — The mellow rhythms of clarinets, upright bass, and sultry vocals filled the air at Mill Pond Park on Saturday evening as hundreds gathered for the third annual Jazz in the Park event—one of Saline’s newest traditions.
Organized by the City of Saline’s Arts and Culture Committee, Jazz in the Park transforms a quiet corner of town into a vibrant open-air concert space where music lovers of all ages gather under canopies, in lawn chairs, and on picnic blankets, to soak in the smooth sounds of live jazz.
"It has become one of Saline’s signature events, thanks in large part to Diana Morning’s leadership and the dedication of the Arts & Culture Committee. And it keeps growing every year." Mary Dettling, Saline Main Street Director stated, "At Saline Main Street, we love seeing well-organized events like this that not only celebrate the arts but also give people more reasons to spend time in Saline.”
This year's event featured a lineup of regional favorites, including The Paul Keller Quintet, Rick Roe Trio, Penny Wells, and Alexander Zonjic - who closed the evening with his energizing flute tunes.
Food trucks and vendors lined the walkways, offering everything from Soul Food, Middle Eastern favorites, Mexican classics, and ice cream. New this year was an Artist walk featuring local crafters and artisans. Families enjoyed the dedicated Kid’s Zone complete with yard games, face painting, and coloring station.
For some, the event was a chance to unwind. For others, it was a moment to reconnect.
“I’m extremely pleased and proud of the support we received from the community.” said Diana Morning, chief organizer and Arts and Culture member.
As the final notes of a flute solo echoed into the trees, even the late afternoon rainstorm couldn’t spoil the energy, as the crowd finished the night with an impromptu dance party.
